A history of innovation

Established on the 27th of September, 1974, by Mick Vawdrey, Vawdrey initially began building truck bodies for smaller companies and owner drivers. In 1975 Russell Baker joined Mick and the two formed a strong parternship, which existed until Russell's retirement in late 2006.

The 1980's saw the company grow from strength to stength, becoming a supplier to the multi-nationals. While the 1990's 'credit squeeze' saw many competitors fail, Vawdrey survived by employing smart management techniques that would prove to be crucial to Vawdrey's long term success.

Mick's son, Paul, was enlisted as Sales Manager and the company began to manufacture semi-trailers. As an integral player in the evolution of the Australian semi-trailer manufacturing industry, Vawdrey built a reputation based on quality, innovation and dedication.

In January, 2001, Vawdrey moved into their current premises situated on the South Gippsland Hwy, Dandenong South. Placed on 6.5 hectares, the complex features a state of the art manufacturing facility, spare parts, repairs, sales and administration areas.

Today, the Vawdrey name is synonymous with high quality and durability. We build these essentials into every one of our trailers using the most advanced technology and equipment available.

The company's aim was never to be involved in price or quality cutting, but to consistently improve the standard of design and quality within the Australian trailer building industry.
