Family owned and operated transport and logistics company, OzWide Freight, invests in productive, reliable road transport solutions from Vawdrey Australia to boost productivity and ensure that its customers in Far North Queensland are receiving the best possible service.

Luke and Rebecca Ashton started their own freight business in 2005 with a 14-pallet body truck and a small 10-pallet truck, managing pickups and deliveries on their own from Brisbane to the Gold Coast and Toowoomba. OzWide Freight’s business grew as a testament to their hard work and by 2012 Luke and Rebecca opened their first depot in Rocklea, expanding their service offering to include warehousing.

The business now has depots in Perth, Rockhampton, Mackay Proserpine Townsville and Cairns. “Townsville and Cairns both have warehousing capabilities along with our Brisbane site at Crestmead,” Luke says — adding that it is still business as usual despite Covid-19. “We haven’t slowed down at all.”

Today, with a team of 30 personnel, and a fleet mix of body trucks, prime movers, single trailers, container swinglifts and Vawdrey B-double sets, OzWide Freight run a highly competitive and dedicated general freight linehaul operation between Brisbane and Far North Queensland.

The company’s most recent order of Vawdrey Australia trailers are configured to operate as a B-triple set to North Queensland.

“This set incorporates an existing 12-pallet straight deck A trailer, a 12-pallet drop deck A Titeliner and a 22-pallet drop deck B Titeliner with mezzanine decks,” Luke says. “The whole set together with the mezz B trailer will give us 62 Pallet spaces. These trailers will go a long way to giving our North Queensland customers a better and more efficient service.”

This particular B-triple combination has garnered a lot of interest from customers and the public for good reason.

“The ANZAC-inspired curtains were a way for us to honour the men and women who gave us the opportunity and the freedom to live, work and grow our own business in this great country,” Luke says. “We worked closely with Mark & Cameron from OJO Creations based in Adelaide. After plenty of toing and froing, we came up with the final design which looks fantastic.”

For Luke and Rebecca, it is extremely important to deal with family businesses like Vawdrey.

“We are ourselves a family owned and operated business,” Luke says. “It’s important to support local Australian businesses. Family owned business tend to treat people more personally rather than just a number like the multinationals do.

“We treat all our customers with the same personal service we expect from our suppliers. This is the main reason we continue to return to Vawdrey.”

Luke and Rebecca also continue to invest in Vawdrey trailing equipment because of the rapport they’ve developed with Paul Vawdrey and his team.

“The support and service offered by Vawdrey is the very reason that we purchase Vawdrey trailers,” Luke says. “They are extremely helpful and are always willing to go above and beyond to assist.”
